5 Apps to Download Before Traveling SouthEast Asia

appss

These are some apps I have and recommend while traveling SouthEast Asia. They have been easy and useful to use during my trips.

Grab

Grab is going to be your Asian version of Uber. Its super easy to use just put your card number in or pay in cash. On grab you can arrange transport through a Grab car or a Grab bike. If you are not scared of sitting behind a random guy on a bike then a Grab bike is gonna be your cheapest option (do it once and you’ll get used to it). You can also use the Grab app for food deliveries. Depending on the city you are in you can find a lot of food options and delivery is quick and easy. You can tip on the app as well but as always tipping is your choice.

12Go Asia

12Go Asia is gonna be the app you use to get from city to city. I have to say I actually only used it once as many of the hostels I stayed at helped me to book long form transport. This app is where you can book sleeper buses or trains to get to your next city. I used the app for a train trip in Vietnam. The app is fairly easy to use just search the trip you want, book it, and wait for confirmation. Once you book it they will confirm your booking an hour or so later. On the app you can find reviews and pictures of the bus or train you will be taking that was you can see how comfortable it is.

Get Your Guide and Klook

GetYourGuide and Klook are 2 of the same kind of apps but use both to weigh all your options. These apps are where you can book tours for all types of attractions or events. I have used both apps depending which had the better deal or had the type of tour I wanted. It is worth getting both options as they can offer similar but slightly different tours and you might like one better than the other. Also a fairly easy app to use.

Airalo

This is what I use to get esims. Now getting an esim can be more expensive than buying an actual sim card; it really just depends on your budget. I prefer and recommend getting a global sim as it works in over 100 countries and it automatically changes carriers when you land in a new country. The app can be a little confusing when installing your esim so just make sure you follow the instructions it gives you. It is important to note that when you use an esim, in order for it to work well, you must turn off your cellular from your home country or else your service will be slow.
