🩵A lot of the time I’m only heading into the city

🩵A lot of the time I’m only heading into the city to meet friends or going in with some kind of objective. This was the first time I went out of my way to just do something for myself.

It’s funny to admit that I’ve taken myself out to eat so many times while traveling, but I was actually nervous this time around. When you’re abroad, no one knows you. When you’re home and you’re by yourself, it almost feels like why are you alone? Where are your friends? That’s the story we tell ourselves.

But honestly, no one cares.

🩵There were so many people out by themselves. When I sat down to eat, there was someone at the bar alone too and I couldn’t have cared less what they were doing. Just like no one cared what I was doing.

That being said, as someone who has slipped into codependent ways before and only does things when other people are doing them with me, this felt important. Being home doesn’t mean I lose everything I gained. I don’t want to shrink back into that version of myself.

This was my first solo date back, and I’m already looking forward to the next one. Hopefully when it’s not freezing and the snow clears.

🩵When you travel not just for the sake of seeing the world, but to see who you can become for yourself, you can’t help but feel a little different once it all ends.

I think the most important thing coming out of this is that I’m pretty self-aware now, and I don’t want to revert to the closed-off person I once was.

🩵I want to continue to grow and put myself out there the way I did while traveling. I want to experience that same openness while being home — still having new experiences, still meeting new people.

It’s super important to put yourself out there and be uncomfortable for a bit, because that’s how you learn more about not only yourself, but the world around you.

🩵Keeping those words in mind feels really important for me moving forward.
